Manually Editing a Search for Publication Link

There are four parameters that you can add directly to a captured Search for Publication link or to a master Search for Publication link: Qry, Pub, Iss, and Num. The following table describes what they are and how to use them in ProQuest Direct link syntax.

Note—If you add a parameter that already has an assigned value in the Link Editor, the value in the Link Editor will override the value in your manual addition. To manually add a parameter value, first make sure that the parameter's value displayed in the Link Editor is either blank or set to (decide later).

Parameter It Stands for... Example What it Means
Qry search query Qry=medicine
or
Qry=medic
%3f
or
Qry=journal%medicine

(See character substitutions below.)
or
Qry=American Journal of Law and Medicine
Find publications whose titles contain the word medicine,
or
...titles that contain a word beginning with medic, such as medicine or medical,
or
...journal and medicine.
or
...find the specific publication.
Pub publication ID Pub=1200345 Return the list of available issues for the publication corresponding to publication ID 1200345.
*The UMI website provides title lists for databases available through ProQuest Direct. Publication ID is available as an included column when you create your customized title list.
Iss issue ID ISS=1000023 Return the list of available articles in the publication issue corresponding to issue ID 1000023.
Num number 10 The maximum number of articles to return. The limit is 40.
Notes About Using the Search Query Parameter
bullet item The Qry parameter can contain a single word that appears in the title, such as medicine; several words that appear in the title, such as journal medicine; or a cohesive phrase that appears in the title, such as journal of medicine.
bullet item Search for Publication does not support the use of operators, such as OR. For example, if you search on american medicine, one of the publications you might find is the American Journal of Law and Medicine.
However, if you search on american OR medicine, will not find any publications since no titles contain the phrase American or Medicine.
bullet item Search for Publication supports the use of the question mark character (?) to search for titles that contain words sharing a common root or stem. For example, searching on educa? will return publications whose titles contain such words as education, educator, and educating. When you add the Qry parameter to a link, substitute (type) %3f instead of ?. For example, instead of Qry=educa?, type Qry=educa%3f. See the next bullet point for other required substitutions.
bullet item Make the following substitutions when specifying a value for the Qry parameter:
instead of a space, type %20
instead of a #, type %23
instead of a /, type %2f
instead of a :, type %3a
instead of a ?, type %3f
