Welcome

XanEdu CoursePacks can be created by faculty who register with XanEdu, or by a bookstore or institution on behalf of a faculty member. The list of CoursePacks shown in your Control Center includes all of the CoursePacks in XanEdu's system that are targeted for sale through your business.

When a CoursePack is adopted, an order for that CoursePack is created in XanEdu's system. Adopted CoursePacks are highlighted in green. CoursePacks that have been created, but not yet adopted are not highlighted.

By default, your CoursePacks are sorted most recent to oldest according to the date shown in the column titled Class Start Date. To change the sort order, click any of the other column headers, such as Name or CoursePack Title.

Graphical Overview of the Control Center

Click a numbered interface element to jump to the corresponding brief description listed beneath the screen capture.

1. Use the buttons at the top of the Control Center to access product order forms, contact XanEdu Customer Service, log out, access Help, or return to the Control Center.

2. The list of CoursePacks shown in your Control Center includes all of the CoursePacks targeted for sale through your organization. By default, the list is ordered by Class Start Date, from most recent to oldest. Click any of the other column headers, such as CoursePack Title or Name to sort the list differently.

3. With a CoursePack selected in the list, click Get Details to view the order history for that CoursePack, including information such as Order Status and Tracking Number. The same CoursePack can be ordered more than once—for example, when an order is placed for additional copies of a previously ordered CoursePack (commonly called an 'Add On Order'). In such a case, the Order list will contain one line for the original order and a second line for the 'Add On Order.' In addition to order information, Get Details also provides the Article list, a listing of the content items included in the CoursePack. The Article list includes: the title of each content item; the page count of each item, if available; the content price for each item and for the entire CoursePack; and copyright clearance status of each content item — Licensed (ProQuest has the rights, no clearance necessary), Cleared (permissions secured), or Not Cleared (permissions being pursued).

4. With an adopted CoursePack (highlighted in green) selected in the list, click ReAdopt to use that CoursePack in a current or upcoming term. Because each CoursePack must be unique, a readoption will cause a new CoursePack to be added to your Manage CoursePacks list. Even if you do not want to change the CoursePack contents, you will be prompted to modify the CoursePack title and enter a new Class Start Date, Enrollment, and other class-specific information. ReAdopt is disabled when you have selected a CoursePack that has not yet been adopted (not shaded with a green highlight).

5. With an adopted CoursePack (highlighted in green) selected in the list, click Order More to order additional copies of the selected CoursePack. When completed, the order will appear as an additional order line in the Order List when you click Get Details with that CoursePack selected. Order More is disabled when you have selected a CoursePack that has not yet been adopted (not shaded with a green highlight).

6. With a CoursePack selected, click Preview to view the CoursePack as a student will see it if they purchased online access to a digital version. Depending on the CoursePack contents, you may be prompted to download a simple free plug-in that works with Adobe Acrobat Reader. Publishers of some content require XanEdu to enforce additional security to prevent unauthorized redistribution.

7. Click View All Orders to see a list of all CoursePack orders served through your organization. The list will be displayed in table format and alphabetically ordered by CoursePack Title. Right-click anywhere in the table and select Export to Microsoft Excel to export the table data (IE only).

8. Click Create a New CoursePack Order to enter all of the information necessary to create a new CoursePack and associated order.

9. Access the "XanEdu Resource Guide". The guide provides XanEdu product descriptions and order forms. Download individual items in Microsoft Word format, or the entire guide as an Adobe Acrobat PDF.

10. XanEdu OriginalWorks and Copley Custom Publishing provide custom textbook publishing services to faculty. Click the links to learn more and inquire about these services.

Terminology

Adopt
After all of the content items for a CoursePack have been assembled, the final step is to adopt the CoursePack, creating an order in XanEdu's system.

Content Price
The price that you pay XanEdu for each article or content item included in a CoursePack. The content price does not include production or shipping costs.

Copyright Status
All content items included in a CoursePack must have copyright permissions secured. To see what the current copyright status for any item in a CoursePack order is, you can select the CoursePack and click Get Details. There are three Copyright Status states:

  • Cleared — Copyright permissions have been secured.
  • Not Cleared — Copyright permissions are being pursued.
  • Licensed — ProQuest has contractual copyright permissions from the publisher.

CoursePack
A collection of supplemental readings to support higher education courses. XanEdu CoursePacks can include articles, cases, the instructor's own writings, and other resources including Web links to Internet resources. Faculty can create their own CoursePack, or have their bookstore, institution, or XanEdu create one for them. Depending on the instructor's preference, students can purchase either a printed CoursePack or online access to a digital version of their CoursePack from your business.

CoursePack ID
A unique numeric identifier used by XanEdu's internal systems to locate and track a CoursePack.

CoursePack Status
Two status states apply to CoursePacks:

  • Adopted — Content for the CoursePack has been selected by the instructor and an order placed with XanEdu for the desired number of copies for a class starting on a specified date. Adopted CoursePacks in your Control Center list of CoursePacks are shaded with a green highlight.
  • Work in Progress (WIPs) — An instructor (or business on behalf of an instructor) has created a new CoursePack but has not yet finished selecting content and supplying course-specific information necessary for adoption. WIPs appear in your Control Center list of CoursePacks, but are not shaded green.

Order
When a CoursePack is adopted, a request is sent to XanEdu for a given number of adopted CoursePacks to be produced and shipped. In your Control Center interface, you can see multiple orders associated with the same CoursePack. For example, if an instructor determines that she needs more copies of a CoursePack following an initial order, she can place an order for additional copies (frequently called an 'Add On' order) by selecting the CoursePack and clicking Order More.

Order Status
The current status of a CoursePack Order that you have placed with XanEdu. To see the status of an order, select the CoursePack and click Get Details. The typical sequence of steps involved in processing orders is reflected in the following list of values you can see for an order's status:

  • Pending — XanEdu has received and is validating the order.
  • Submitted — The CoursePack is adopted, but copyright permissions are still being secured. Price is not yet determined.
  • Approved — Accurate page counts of content items are available.
  • Proofed — The CoursePack is being vetted by XanEdu Quality Control.
  • Released to Production — Your XanEdu Account Coordinator (AC) has sent the CoursePack to Production. Your AC can give you an accurate price for the CoursePack.
  • Printing — Print production of the CoursePack has begun.
  • Shipping — The CoursePack is queued for shipping.
  • Accounting — The CoursePack has shipped. An invoice is being generated.
  • Completed — The order is complete and in your inventory.

ReAdopt
Adopt a listed, previously adopted CoursePack for a current or upcoming term. When you ReAdopt a CoursePack, you will be prompted to enter new information including a modified title, class start date, and enrollment number. The 'new' CoursePack is then added to your list of CoursePacks.
